Welcome back, everyone!
To help you kick off 2026, we have some new resources, an upcoming workshop, and a recommended resource we want to share.
1. Student Centered-Feedback
If you find yourself doing all the talking in rehearsal, or if your students seem to be waiting to be told what to fix, this is the post for you. We shared a breakdown of a “Ask vs. Tell” feedback sequence. It is a classroom-tested method to help students evaluate themselves and take ownership of the music. It’s a small shift that pays huge dividends.
2. Let’s Make Music Together (Miami Area) March 21st
For my friends in South Florida, nothing replaces the energy of making music in the same room. We are hosting a “Creative Music Making” gathering right there in the Miami area. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, improvise, and walk away with fresh ideas you can use immediately in your classroom. Check the link for dates and registration details.
3. Recommended Resource: Songwriting for Music Educators
I cannot recommend this platform enough. Founded by Sarah Gulish and Kat Reinhert, Songwriting for Music Educators was born from a simple but radical idea: music teachers should be allowed (and encouraged!) to be songwriters, too.
Also Check out the virtual workshop that Kat Reinhert is doing on Feb. 2nd through Music Will.
We hope that your semester is off to an amazing start and that 2026 with be a great year for you and your students.
